Lisbon
Europe, Travels
Old or new, everything’s colorful!
Old or new, everything’s colorful!
Lisbon is one of the prettiest metropolis that I’ve visited. I do not like big cities because I feel overwhelmed with them. However, the capital of Portugal, has something that makes this place more cosy. Maybe it’s a matter of many squares, and maybe old houses of Bairro Alto covered with a colourful mosaics. Whatever it’s, it works fine.
Walking around the Belem or any other old districts near Tag river, you can smell a sense of rich history of this city. Jerónimos Monastery, Castle of São Jorge, many cathedrals, or even pavements covered with a tiny paving stones, are evidences how rich this city was in the past and how big role it played during Age of Exploration. Contemporary architecture cultivates these traditions and here you can also notice some glamour. Vasco da Gama Brigde, Oceanario, Oriente Station, MAAT and Centro Cultural de Belem are impressive. Fortunately, not only by the size, but also the style. In my opinion, the Portuguese have managed to perfectly integrate the modern buildings into the atmosphere of Lisbon. 5 days in November, which we spent here, were enough to feel this atmosphere and make you want more.
